What parents had to say...

3 CORE POTTY TRAINING STRATEGIES

  • A GREAT SET OF VISUALS

Picture is worth a thousand words - you've heard it many times. If there is one thing you want to take away from this post, take this - 99% of kids with Autism are visual thinkers! Visuals will not only help your child understand what's involved in potty training, but can help with pretty much every self care activities. Remember, any autism potty training strategy without visuals is incomplete! Period. Now, for potty training, visuals can include story-boards, social stories, picture cards, etc

  • TASK MANAGEMENT

Task Management is the art of breaking down a complex activity into simple, more manageable set of actions. For example, if you are not a builder and I tell you to build a house, how would you feel?  🥺Confused? Overwhelmed? But imagine if I gave you the initial steps i.e. build foundation, lay bricks, mount roof, paint walls - suddenly it feels little more manageable, isn't it? Also, the further I break these steps down, the easier it becomes.

For your kiddo, the whole process of going to the toilet seems like an overly complex process. Instead, if you were to breakdown the whole process into 10 to 15 steps using visuals and storyboards, your child will feel way more comfortable

  • MOTIVATION MECHANISMS (Reinforcers)

Some people may think of reinforcers as "ethical bribes", but I disagree. I like to think of it as a reward. Imagine this, if you do a great job at work, your management gives you a raise and/or a promotion. Is that bribe? Heck no! It's something you have earned - and is rightfully yours. But why did your management give you a raise in the first place? Because, they want you to feel motivated and do even better next time.

Your child needs motivation too. Reward them if they complete part of the toilet training process by themselves. It doesn't have to be something expensive - cookies, candies, stickers or even a warm hug could act as a great motivator for your child! The key here is to let your child know that you acknowledged his/her effort.

COMPONENTS

OF AUTISM POTTY TRAINING 101

where I'll breakdown the whole toilet training process for Autism

  • MODULE 1 [2 Video Lessons]

Introducing you to all whole Process and "How to use" the Course

This module is more more of a warmup before we start the whole toilet training process. Things you need to be aware of and how you can make the most out of this course.

  • MODULE 2 [8 Video Lessons]

    Getting prepared

Preparation is the key! Almost 60% of your time and energy will be spent in getting your child and yourself prepared. Throughout the 8 video lessons, I show you how to assemble and have everything ready before starting the whole process on Day 1.

  • MODULE 3 [3 Video Lessons]

Before you start on the day

How you start the day (that you picked to initiate the toilet training process) matters heaps! In this module, you will uncover how to set the tone and manage expectations with your child.

  • MODULE 4 [6 Video lessons]

    Putting to all together

This is where the action begins! I walk you through every step of the toilet training process - steps to execute over the next 3-4 days. From start to finish (both number 1 and 2)

  • MODULE 5 [4 Video Lessons]

    Using Reinforcers

We talked about the power of motivators - but with great power comes great responsibility. So how do you reward your child just enough to keep him/her motivated on the job. More importantly, how do you gradually phase out the rewards, coz you are not going to reward them forever, right?

  • MODULE 6 [4 Lessons]

    {My Favorite} The Visuals Library

This one, I am really proud of! In this module, I will share with you more than 100 Potty Training Visuals + 43 Social stories +  30 Reinforcers related to toilet training. You will never need to look for any other toilet training visual - I guarantee 😀

  • MODULE 7 [6Video Lessons]

    Handling Challenges & Objections

Sure you will come across a few hurdles while toilet training your child. Sure, your child will raise objections to a number of things you want him/her to do. In this module, I share every imaginable situation - how you can handle those and still get your child toilet trained in a week

  • MODULE 8 [2 Video Lessons]

    Avoiding Regression

Regression is often experienced by parents in as many as 1 out of every 4 cases. A child, who was fully potty trained last week can suddenly go back to little accidents. This is where parents loose their cool - but not if I show you how to avoid this from happening!

  • MODULE 9 [Last Phase]

    Supplementary Resources

In this section you will find all the tools and apps that you will need. It includes worksheets, checklists and quick reference guides that you can use to accelerate the whole process.

Autism Spectrum, Australia (ASPECT)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This is one of the Top 5 most popular resources that we feature on our website. Must have for any family struggling to toilet train kids with Autism!

As part of my profession, I try to develop structured learning programs for children with special needs - and that doesn't just apply to academics, but for daily living skills as well. Ash uses a highly structured approach to Toilet training - very similar to what professionals use, but toned down to a level that any parent could use to get their little ones potty trained.
